Teaching at Vogue Knitting Live10.23.2014
This weekend I’m teaching at Vogue Knitting Live! Chicago. I’m lucky to be included in such a great event with so many other talented instructors. Amy Herzog, Norah Gaughan, Franklin Habit, Amy Detjen, John Brinegar, Carol Sulcoski, Nancy Marchant, Laura Nelkin, and Wendy Bernard will all be there, along with many more skilled teachers, offering an amazing selection classes (many of which I’d love to sneak in on myself.) On top of that, the event even features a gala dinner to honor Barbara Walker, who is only the author of five of the greatest stitch dictionaries in the history of humankind (setting aside entirely the fact that she ALSO more or less invented top down knitting.) And even if you don’t attend any events, the marketplace alone is worth a visit. Last year the selection of indie dyers was… formidable to say the least. And also fabulous. I came home with rather a lot of yarn last year, despite my best attempts to be all frugal and conservative about it. There was just too much to resist.
I’ll be at VKL! Chicago to teach two classes this year:
- Math for Knitters Demystified teaches knitters the basic math formulas that form the building blocks of every knitting pattern, and shows even the most math-averse crafter how to overcome math anxiety and unlock endless possibilities for altering patterns to suit them, or for designing their own from scratch.
- How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Kitchener Stitch is an A-Z of grafting that will help you never look up Kitchener stitch again. This little miniature boot camp will leave you with the tools to confidently graft in knit, in purl, and in pattern (yes, even lace and cables!), and will teach a few nifty tricks like using waste yarn to avoid actually Kitchenering altogether, and even grafting knits using no sewing needle at all.
Vogue Knitting Live! Chicago takes place Friday, October 24 through Sunday, October 26, and it isn’t too late to register – you can sign up for many classes and lectures on the spot. It promises to be great fun – if you happen to be in Chicago, you should come on down and take a class or a lecture, or just wander around the marketplace floor and check out the plentiful yarn and fiber to be had. You can register or read more about Vogue Knitting Live! Chicago at their website here. I hope I’ll see you there!
(P.S.: if you’d like a taste of my grafting class, I’ll be putting up a tutorial about grafting in pattern shortly!)
